For some students, inequality signs can be difficult to remember and understand.
Using an analogy: I use the idea of "donuts" from a well-known donut brand chain in my area, versus the donut chain’s "donut bits." Through this simple method students build an understanding of working with inequality signage by making connections to “real world.”
To build an analogy that works best for you and your students: Simply substitute any donut brand chain to describe the donuts and donut bits. I’ve used this with my students and have found first hand, that students not only take a liking to the concept, but they “get it,” and that is exactly the purpose!
