As my student's and I always have 'talked' about the 'what if's' in history. This project allows students to "change" the course of history and report on "what they THINK" might have happened. It is their chance to re-write history or recreate history.
My students just love the idea that I open up history and I am not afraid to let them "tell" what they think – right or wrong. It makes them 'remember' history. Once they re-write history they seem to remember it better plus they have a better working knowledge of what happen and what could have happened. Then that even helps our discussions.
I have just figured I wanted my students to get the same enjoyment from what I learned and studied in my 27 years teaching Louisiana history. I want them to have a desire to look into history and see what the author's did not tell them.
I have always loved the "What if…" ideas within the history stories that we have gone over. I know that these types of questions have led me to become a lifelong learner. And it is what I want my students to become.
