*IPad Technology Packet*
Have you been given the gift of technology? Are you trying to teach your 25+ students how to use an IPad? I am a firm believer that the only way children learn is by doing. I was given a class set of IPads by my district. After teaching my students the basics of the technology, I was at a standstill. I wanted them to use the IPads on their own and be able to access applications on their own. At the same time, I didn't want the IPad to turn into an "App Machine" where all the children did was play games or roam the internet. My kinders weren't quite at a place where they could actively "create" videos, etc. on their own without my help, yet they were able to successfully access applications and complete given tasks. I created this file based on the applications that my district purchased for my students' IPads. They are popular applications that I would assume many districts purchase for younger children. They are top rated apps used within my district. Some are free, some are not.
*File Description*
Of the many apps my children used, I created instructional pages and handout pages to accompany the apps. I use these primarily during learning stations. After introducing the app to the students whole group or in a small group, I trained them on the instructional page so that when they saw it during center time they knew what to do. The students see the instructional page and know what is expected of them. Of course, this is all done after extensive training (a month's worth at least of discussing how to properly handle the IPads, where they go, how to access the apps, use the headphones, complete the handouts, etc.). After this, the children know when they see a certain instructional sheet exactly what to do. These can also be used during indpendent reading time, or as a time tool if you have early finishers.
