Product Description
It's so ironic that kids can't grasp the irony! Students understand irony much better when they can see it! This presentation includes engaging graphics and videos to help kids SEE irony. It's fun and funny!

This presentation consists of 19 slides with 30+ graphics and 5 embedded videos.

It begins with a definition of irony then continues with distinctions among

---verbal,

---situational, and

---dramatic irony.

For each type of irony there are

---real world examples and

---examples from literature:

-----Verbal—Julius Caesar (with an embedded video of Antony’s funeral speech by Charlton Heston)—Additionally, a clip from Monty Python’s Holy Grail where Arthur battles the Black Knight who merely suffers a few “flesh wounds.”

-----Dramatic—Animal Farm (with an embedded video of the movie trail for kids unfamiliar with the novel). Additionally, a clip from Snow White where the stepmother poisons the apple, a reminder that the reader or audience knows the apple is poisoned, but Snow does not.

-----Situational-The Gift of the Magi and a reference to Fahrenheit 451, a book about banning books, being banned. Additionally, a clip from the F451 movie about books “making people sad” (Imagine!)

Following the discussion and illustrations of the types of irony are
3 slides depicting irony.

---The first is various ironic signs found in the real world,

---the second is school-related such as announcements congradulting the spelling bee winners, and

---the last photos that portray irony such as a truck with flame graphics gone up in real flames.

These are funny.

Kids respond well and are quite pleased when they can recognize the irony.

I include one slide listing my sources.

Attractive format, clear font.
