Updated: May 23, 2017. Note: 51 teachers have bought this product. About 65 power point slides have pictures and info; 35 slides have pictures or maps to analyze; 25 slides have editorial cartoons to decipher. I also include 6 sides of notes that correspond to the power point, a list of quotes from the Koran, and an article which I wrote for the Providence Journal on the topic. Students will have the opportunity to debate US foreign policy options vis-a-vis ISIS.
This product works very well in conjunction with my power point on Syria. It will not focus on all the atrocities committed by ISIS, although there are a few graphic images. Rather, it will focus on the goals and motivations of ISIS, on whether they are, indeed, Muslims, and on US foreign policy options regarding ISIS.
Note: I also have a shortened version of this power point with 61 slides which goes into less depth and breadth than the longer version, but which might enable you to deal with the subject in one class period.
I am an award winning, recently retired HS global studies teacher, now teaching in the Political Science Dept. of URI, and the Education Dept. of Salve Regina. Hence, I feel that I know my content well, and I also know a lot of successful teaching strategies which assist me in conveying said content. (See my profile)
