Need an easy back to school ice breaker that will help your students get their wiggles out those first few weeks of school? Perfect for readers and nonreaders, first graders will have fun building community while getting to know each other's name, interests, and experiences.

Students will build connections, practice speaking and listening skills, and have authentic writing experiences with this twist on a whole group All About Me activity, while having the added bonus of getting up and moving. This is one of my students' favorite back to school activities the first week of school!

This Back to School Icebreaker Activity Includes:

✅ 5 “Find Someone Who..” games with visuals to help beginning readers

✅ Teacher Tips

✎ Simply print one ice breaker page for each child and allow students to interview each other. I like to add extra movement activities the first weeks of school so having my students use clipboards while roaming the room is a huge help.

✎ Share the comments (read as a complete sentence) as a class, create group charts about shared interests, or use the topics as future writing ideas.

✎ After getting to know each other, students can ease their first day of school jitters while coloring the scavenger hunt page.

Ideas for using ice breakers in the classroom:

✅ Choose your favorite page and have students fill in their new friend's name in the correct spot.

✅ Use one ice breaker page each day during the first week of school

✅ Use one each week as a special Fun Friday activity during the first month of school.

✅ If you partner up with a different class or grade for special lessons, help students get to know each other before collaborative lessons.
