This lesson requires either a copy of Giraffes Can't Dance by Giles Andreae or access to various You Tube readings of the story. This sweet story is about Gerald the Giraffe who feels bad because he is unable to dance like all the other jungle animals. With a little help and encouragement from a friend, though, Gerald realizes he can dance in his own unique way! This lesson contains a reading response page that asks students to make connections to Gerald and encourages the celebration of who we are as individuals by creating spots to be displayed on a giant cut out giraffe! Having students share their spots with partners or in group provides opportunity for us all to learn about one another.
