This set includes five great ice cream themed centers, including language and math activities.
My personal ice cream flavor: Children get to design their own flavor of ice cream and list all of the ingredients. This activity is perfect for encouraging creativity and critical thinking. Children will have to consider the kinds of things that they like on their ice cream, and how these flavors will taste together. They also have to consider the different ingredients that they will need to make this ice cream, and write these ingredients.
Ice cream story starters: Children can come up with an answer to these questions and illustrate their answer. This activity encourages critical thinking, recall of information, and problem solving. Children can write their answers or dictate them to the teacher.
My ice cream glyph: Children create an ice cream cone using their answers to questions about summer activities in order to determine what their cone will look like.
Our favorite ice cream flavors: Children get to survey classmates, family members, or school staff and graph their responses to the question “What is your favorite flavor of ice cream?” This activity encourages data collection and analysis.
Roll a cone: Children roll the dice and collect the cards to build an ice cream cone. Their cone is complete when they have a cone, at least one scoop of ice cream, and at least one topping. This game is designed for two players, but you can print multiple copies of the cards to include more students. This activity encourages social skills (turn taking, cooperative behaviors, following rules) along with visual discrimination.
