This simple printable ice cream cone template makes learning about value and color fun for elementary aged students. The template has everything you need to construct an amazing ice cream cone. The scoops of ice cream can be colored using colored pencils or painted with watercolor paints. This art project would make an excellent sub lesson plan. The directions ask students to color the scoops of ice cream using analogous colors (colors next to each other on the color wheel). After coloring, students use value (shading) to make their ice cream cone look more realistic. A value scale and example of a value scale are included on the template for practice. Once the color and value are done, students can cut the pieces out and glue them together. Add a complementary colored background of construction paper for an even bigger pop of color! This project takes about 2 (50-minute) class sessions depending on age group.
