This is primarily a math project with fifteen different tasks for students to complete. Students imagine that they are going to open up their own ice cream shop. They have to figure out how much money they will spend on equipment like freezers, set reasonable prices for their products, create a work schedule for several employees, figure out the area of items in the shop, and calculate the amount of change customers would receive from making purchases. Students will use their addition, multiplication, measurement, and geometry skills with this project. Besides math work, there are also several art and writing tasks included to motivate students. The project is designed to take several days to complete and can serve as an assessment of the math skills students have acquired throughout the school year. There is a two page rubric included so student work can be easily scored.
