This rubric, based off of Marzano's Educational Objectives, allows students to assess themselves based on their effort towards the goal or "I can" statement for the lesson being taught. Students will have four different levels that are represented by pictures to select from.
For lower elementary students, these are:
Ice Cream Cone with a Cherry On Top: "I did more than my teacher asked!"
Ice Cream Cone with Sprinkles: "I did my best! I'm proud of my work!"
Chocolate and Vanilla Ice Cream Cone: "I finished my work but I forgot several things."
Vanilla Ice Cream Cone: "I didn't do what my teacher asked."
For upper elementary students, these will be the same except for each level, the words Advanced (4) , Proficient (3) , Basic (2) , and Below Basic (1) will be included. You can see what this will look like in the preview.
This rubric fits student's interest and ability levels as well as allowing them to connect with what they need to accomplish. This effort rubric also gives students a clear understanding of what they need to do to accomplish the goal. Students will be able to refer to the reference poster with each part of the rubric listed.
