Description

Are you preparing to teach your middle school students how to analyze how and why ideas develop and interact over the course of a text? Students will learn a 3 step process for determining how ideas develop in any piece of nonfiction with these interactive guided notes.

I call these notes Pixanotes®. Pixanotes® are a blend of the structure of traditional two-column notes and visual/interactive notes. There are 4 versions all with the same content so that each student can get what he or she needs.

In this resource you'll receive:

★ A link to the text that the notes are based on: "High Court Reviews Insanity-Defense Case"

NOTE: This text is at a slightly higher level than the grade levels for which these notes are intended. This is because research has shown that texts with a little bit of a challenge is important if reading growth is expected. So while the texts may be a bit more challenging for a regular 6th grader, it is definitely within reach with some scaffolding. However, they are right on target for 7th and 8th graders. I think students will see it as a compliment when they are trusted with a more rigorous text.

★ Four versions of Pixanotes® with different levels of scaffolding (see a video about Pixanotes by clicking here.)

★ Word bank (for more advanced students to use instead of the PowerPoint)

★ Picture flaps

★ PowerPoint that matches the notes.

I hope this helps you teach your students how to analyze idea development in a nonfiction text! :)
