Description
Identifying the EMOTIONS of others and knowing how to RESPOND is a complex pragmatic language skill that is difficult to teach! But this resource provides relevant and real-world situations for your students to practice the social emotional skill of reading others' feelings.
This activity will help your students infer the emotions of others using their body language, facial expressions, and the situational context. Unlike most other feelings and emotions resources, this one goes the next step by prompting students to identify what they could say in each social situation.
Both DIGITAL + PRINTABLE versions are included in this resource. For each of the 34 scenarios, there's a short written description and a picture of a person showing the emotion. In each one, you can practice these skills:
- Reading the EMOTION of someone
- Making an INFERENCE about why they might feel that way
- RESPONDING to the person while considering how they're feeling
- Making a PERSONAL CONNECTION by identifying a time the student felt that similarly
Take your students beyond simple feelings (happy, sad, and mad) and into more complex emotions (such as jealous, proud, and confused) when targeting social language. This resource makes it easy to help your students take the perspective of others and respond to someone's emotions.
Here are the 3 VERSIONS you'll get:
- Two PDF versions (color and black and white for easy printing)
- A BOOM CARDS deck... check out the FREE playable preview!
- A TpT Easel Activity
The resource allows you to differentiate your therapy with two levels. In the first level, there are 20 scenarios that are geared towards elementary and middle school students, while the second level contains 14 scenarios designed for high school students. However, crossover between the two levels may be appropriate for some students, as the topics in the high school section are not too mature for younger students.
