This is an activity I did in groups after a Mini-Lesson on figurative language in poetry.
To differentiate I had 2 sets of 3 different file folders. I had below grade level easy to analyze poems (Shell Silverstein, etc) one on grade level (from text book or grade level being taught), and one advanced level (using another resource such as Jacob's Ladder, Jr. Great Books, Shakespeare sonnet, etc).
Each group had their own paper to write on, but only analyzed and identified the figurative language from the poems in their folder.
In the end, we shared out and checked our work with the other groups.
Each group leader also picked their group's favorite poem and if time allowed one group member read it aloud to share out since the poems from the folders were different.
