This biochemistry product includes three items:
1) A graphic organizer table for students to take notes on the basic characteristics of 7 key chemical functional groups in biological macromolecules. - 1 pg
2) A worksheet to practice identifying the functional groups and identifying isomers. A brief description of each molecule is provided and then students circle and label the functional groups. Three questions also address types of isomers (structural, geometric, and enantiomers). - 2 pgs
3) A short quiz in which students must identify each of the 7 functional groups on a molecule. - 1 pg
Answer keys are provided for all 3 resources.
The functional groups included: hydroxyl, carbonyl, carboxyl, amine, sulfhydryl, phosphate, and methyl
This resource aligns with Chapter 4 in Campbell Biology (10th ed.): Carbon and the Molecular Diversity of Life
