Product Description
This resource is my identifying minerals lab report, a one day lab activity that has students test and identify 7 different mystery minerals. The tests students perform are streak test, acid test (using vinegar), hardness test using the Mohs scale, light properties (translucent, transparent and opaque). Optional fracture test and data is also included. Students will practice weighing the minerals using a triple beam balance and recording their data and results in a data table.

Materials needed for this lab:
7-11 different types of minerals. Examples with data provided in this lab:
Quartz
Granite
Mica
Gypsum
Calcite
Hornblende
Fluorite
Limestone
Sandstone
Basalt
Marble
7- 11 trays
Beaker or container for Vinegar for each station
Vinegar 100 ml per beaker (or however you need for your class size) each station
2 Eye Droppers per station
2 steel nails per station
2 copper pennies per station
1-2 ceramic tile piece per station
1-2 piece of glass per station
1 triple beam balance per station
2 magnifying glasses per station (optional)
