This activity includes 8 short passages requiring students to identify similes and metaphors. Students are also asked to explain the purpose of the figurative language and why it is used in the text. This activity is great to use for stations, centers, as a warm-up activity-- it also can be a great lesson to leave for sub plans. An answer key is included.
Following this activity, the "All About Me" activity asks students to use some serious brain power in creating their own figurative statements about themselves! Quick tip: I like to enlarge the "Figuratively Speaking" page of this activity--it gives the students more room to be creative! :) Students really get into this activity--you can really increase engagement by adding an incentive for the most creative simile or metaphor! There is a rubric included which allows you to insert your own points for each category.
