Here are 15 short passages that fall under different text structure categories. Each passage contains different patterns and key words that will help students identify whether the passage is Compare and Contrast, Cause and Effect, Descriptive, Sequence, or Problem and Solution. After each passage, there is a space for students to identify the text structure of the passage, indicate key words that helped them identify the structure, and explain their answer. Feel free to cut apart the passages to use them as task cards! These are perfect for centers, independent work, group work or full-class work. This activity aligns with CCSS Anchor Standard: Analyze the structure of texts, including how specific sentences, paragraphs, and larger portions of the text relate to each other and the whole.
