When you ask your students to identify the main idea, do they answer something like this: "It's about dogs." or "It's all about cheetahs." We noticed our kids answering main idea questions by stating the topic instead of the main idea. We developed this unit to help teach our students the difference between a topic and a main idea. We also wanted it to be fun, so we made it into boot camp!
This is an activity from our Main Idea Boot Camp
unit, a fun and engaging way to help you teach main idea.
In our main idea boot camp unit you will find:
-Main Idea lesson ideas
-Main Idea chant poster
-Student training manual packet
-Topic vs. Main Idea cut and paste
-4 engaging and interesting paragraph passages to identify the main idea and topic.
-Boxes and Bullets graphic organizer
-Summary graphic organizer
-Synthesizing graphic organizer
