In this great resource, students will get hands on learning experience in identifying "who", "what", "when", "where", "why", & "how". This resource includes 3 activities which will get students involved and motivated to find and retrieve the details in the text.
Activity 1: Students will read the sentence and the "who", "what", "when", "where", "why", & "how" cards and then accurately place their detail next to the correct card. This activity is meant to introduce students to this concept. All cards are placed on the whiteboard for all to see as this is a whole class activity. Includes "who", "what", "when", "where", "why", & "how" cards which should be displayed on the board, includes sentences for the teacher to write on the board (one at a time), and includes task cards with the answers on it that are given out to student volunteers.
Activity 2: This can be done in groups, centers, partners, etc. Students receive 10 sentences and must read and write out the details of the sentence. This forces students to identify the "who", "what", "when", "where", "why", & "how" in each sentence. These are printed 2 on a page where students can easily write the answers.
Activity 3: This activity can also be done in groups, centers, partners, etc. Students receive a chart and the assigned task cards. students will read the sentences and place the task cards in the appropriate spots on the chart.
Also included: 2 implementation suggestion pages where I also encourage teachers to laminate or use card stock for added durability. No sentences in this resource repeat.
Students will really have the opportunity to practice identifying these important elements of a text while also having fun in a supportive environment. Please download the preview to see a sample of this resource.
