This is chapter two of my of my nine chapter book titled: Foundations of Writing Persuasive Essays. Chapter one explains what a persuasive essay is and rationalizes for students why they are necessary in our culturally diverse world. In this chapter, your students will be taught the role that a thesis statement serves within the context of an essay. The exercises that your students will be exposed to in this section require them to read several introduction paragraphs, each related to a current-topic and identify the sentence that represents the thesis statement. What's more, the topic of each paragraph lends itself to classroom discussion and debate. For example, should our government mandate that we have to be vaccinated before starting school.
The exercises in this manual meet common core writing standards; students will be able to state the purpose and goal of a thesis statement, and they will be able to identify them as well.
