This resource includes four Idiom activities for 4th to 6th grade students. They would work well for differentiation, warm-up activities, or to leave as sub work. An answer key is included for the first three activities.
The activities are:
1) Idiom Question Creation, Fall theme. There are ten idioms supplied at the top of the page and ten “answers” follow. Students choose an appropriate idiom to formulate a question to match the answer. An example is given for the students. The theme is fall/autumn so could be done any time between September and November;
2) Idiom Question Creation, “cold” theme. Similar to #1, the idioms relate to coldness and would be appropriate to use during colder weather, but could be used any time of the year. Again, students create questions to the given answers, choosing idioms from the top of the page;
3) Idiom match (2 pages, can be done separately). Students complete the sentences by choosing the appropriate idiom at the top of the page. Ten idioms are provided, but only 8 are used to fill in the blanks - students then make their own sentences with the two remaining idioms;
4) Idioms: Explain the Meanings: (2 pages, can be done on separate occasions), theme: jobs, professions. Students explain in “plain English” the meanings of each dialogue (you could have the students rewrite the dialogue or just explain what the idioms mean).
Please have a look at the preview to ensure that this resource is appropriate for your students!
These idiom activities are also listed in my Four Season Photo Prompts sets (links will be added soon!).
