I created this resource to use with English learners in my middle school classroom. I didn't want something that looked babyish, but I wanted it at their level.
The activity includes a list of idioms on a chart (easy to edit and add to). For each one, the student must find the definition, draw a literal picture and a figurative picture. There is an example done for them.
In my classroom, we did this on Google Docs, so the students used Google Images. However it can be done with drawing as well.
This is great as a warm-up (one per day), or as an extended activity all at once. There is also a section for students to add an idiom in their primary language, so they feel they are adding their own prior knowledge/culture to the classroom.
