My students LOVE this project! It's not only humorous, but also a great way to generate ideas for their art (something all artists struggle with).
Via PowerPoint, students are introduced to idioms as part of English and other languages. They then view a few examples of idiom illustrations as inspiration. Next, students view a provided list of idioms and their meanings and are given time to look up their own, if they desire. They then use the provided worksheet to sketch ideas for their 3 favorite idioms and, finally, develop their favorite sketch into a full drawing/artwork in the medium of their choice (or your choice).
This is a great project for Art, Foreign Language, Social Studies, and English classes. Adaptable to various ages levels, though the provided documents are geared towards Secondary.
Included in the zip file:
-PowerPoint and pdf files of the "Idiom Illustrations" PowerPoint
-pdf and docx files of "Idioms List" (1 page)
-pdf of "Idiom Examples" paper (1 page)
-pdf of "Idiom Sketches" worksheet (1 page)
This is an awesome project that my students spend 3-8, 45-minute class periods on (depending on the level of detail required for their final illustrations).
