which display common idioms, their definitions (both literal and figuratively), with pictures and examples with the idioms being used in a sentence related to the picture shown. Your students will have a lot of fun learning about idioms! This file is a wonderful tool for teaching idioms because it has idioms that are current and presented in an attractive format. It incorporates simple definitions and examples of common idioms. Idioms are very difficult for English Language Learners but the illustrations are a huge help for preventing students from taking the literal meaning of each idiom. You can also use it to make a bulletin board of idioms.
You can also print them out on a smaller scale so that they can be used as revision flash cards. I included as many pictures (clip art) as I could because I like to have students make connections between the new vocabulary and the everyday situations that they are already familiar with.
