Idioms frequently appear on lists of terms to teach, so why not teach them in a fun and memorable way? This activity uses original cartoons to illustrate common idioms. When each illustrated idiom appears, students get to guess the idiom, making for an entertaining 20 minutes of learning. This presentation gives the definition of an idiom followed by 20+ examples including: Putting your eggs all in one basket, blowing your top, fish out of water, keeping your nose to the grindstone, etc.
Included in this download are:
A Powerpoint presentation where the idiom names appear beneath the illustrations after students have had time to guess (PPT and PPTX versions)
A PDF version of the presentation
A student worksheet version of the illustrated idioms, where students are asked to guess the idioms on paper
This activity is one of my students' favorites!
