Idiomatic speech can be confusing for anyone learning English.
To learn idiomatic speech, students need help to understand what different idioms and idiomatic expressions mean without having to study long lists of similar ideas.
With a strong belief that long lists of vocabulary presented according to meaning or grammatical feature are very confusing and extremely difficult to learn. Therefore, in this collection, idioms have been randomly placed, with one idiom on each page illustrated in a related cartoon.
Each selected idiom or expression is carefully presented in a short dialogue to illustrate its meaning in context. Students, either in class or studying on their own, are encouraged to find the idiom in each dialogue and then guess its meaning from the context provided.
An additional sample sentence has been provided at the end of each section to provide another chance to review or check meaning.
Finally, definitions have been provided at the end of each section so students can check their ideas
