This card game has 4 levels of learning
to make sure your students thoroughly understand 16 common idioms.
The idioms that are included:
Time is money.
Sick as a dog.
Steal someone’s thunder.
Heard it through the grapevine.
Pulling someone’s leg.
Finding a needle in a haystack.
Hitting the sack.
The last straw.
Head in the clouds.
Straight from the horse’s mouth.
Burning the midnight oil.
Barking up the wrong tree.
Comparing apples to oranges.
Fish out of water.
Counting your chickens before they hatch.
This card deck includes 64 cards - 16 cards per color.
Each color has a designated language task
to be completed before it can be played in the game.
⭐If you draw a blue card:
you must name the idiom portrayed in the picture on the card.
⭐If you draw a red card:
you must state the LITERAL meaning of the idiom pictured.
⭐If you draw a green card:
you must state the FIGURATIVE meaning of the idiom pictured.
⭐If you draw a yellow card:
you must explain how and when you could use the idiom pictured.
Each of the 16 idioms is represented 4 times
throughout the card deck. This allows for countless opportunities for your students to demonstrate their knowledge and understanding of these idioms.
