There's a fox in the hen house! That's all you need to say to activate this lesson with your class! Students love learning about idioms.
Want a hands-on, common core lesson on idioms / figurative language?
Print this lesson and you will have 26 idiom cards to pass out to your students. Next, give them the activity sheet so they can draw the literal and figurative meanings for their idioms. If your students are like mine, they will love sharing their work with their classmates! I've even included a task card for each grade, so you can hang some in your halls!
Figurative Language exists in most of the elementary common core standards. Although this lesson was written for 3rd or 4th graders, it certainly could be adapted for 1st or 2nd graders if you chose only a few of the idioms and allowed them to work in groups.
Happy teaching! Leave feedback to tell me how this lesson goes for you!
