Difficulty with figurative language can have a tremendous adverse effect on academic performance! For students who struggle with reading comprehension, learning disabilities, social language skills and learning a new language, figurative language can be nearly impossible to learn unless taught explicitly. This is the second unit out of ten in a series that will help organize these concepts into logical units in order to make figurative language easier for students to learn. Each unit consists of 24 figurative language phrases that align with the theme. Each theme includes definitions, the background of how this phrase came to be used, an example of its use within a sentence, a 5 set BINGO game, a 24 card set for students to draw a literal use of the phrase, ideas for additional activities and a parent letter explaining what the students are learning and how they can help at home.
