Product Description
In the new common core standards for both 7th and 8th grades students must identify idioms, similes, metaphors and other figures of speech. I created this worksheet to go along with Schooled by Gordon Korman. The characters in the book use quite a few figures of speech, which are made more apparent because Cap doesn't understand their meaning. This is a great way to talk about what idioms are and why they are difficult for non-native speakers. I have indicated a page number for each idiom. Students need to find the idiom and then decide what the speaker is really trying to say. I have done the same for the similes/metaphors worksheet. The page number is indicated and students must find what is being compared. Then they identify whether it is a simile or a metaphor.
