Product Description
This template can be used to help students see the difference between a show sentence and tell sentence. Simile's and metaphors in mentor texts can be cut and pasted into the show sentence boxes. This is also an effective way to illustrate the meaning of an idiom. Students are asked to illustrate what they see when the author "paints a picture" with their words. Then they are asked to tell in a sentence what they really mean. It really shows them how a show sentence is far more interesting to read. In the last box students are asked to create their own simile or metaphor. Sometimes I have students hunt during reading workshop and use their show sentences.
