Are your students in need of some reinforcement about why teamwork and cooperation are important? Use the Iditarod Race as motivation to help improve these important concepts with this active and fun brain break set.
Students will learn mushing terminology and the brain break portion of this lesson will reinforce the importance of teamwork. Your students will draw a ticket and be assigned a position within the team (musher, lead dog, trail dog, or wheel dog) and BECOME the dog sled team and musher and act out mushing on the Iditarod Trail, The Last Great Race. They will make their head band (dog ears or headlamp) and you're almost ready for the race!
Your sled dog teams will assemble in a large space (playground, common area, cafeteria) and the teams will use the mushing language to move the team. It's not as easy as it seems and cooperation and teamwork will be KEY to success.
Have fun with this set that's perfect for use any time of year but especially in late February or early March when the Iditarod Race is being run. The Iditarod Race starts the first Saturday of March.
