This assignment requires students to write story problems (or, as I call them, "Math Stories") about the Iditarod as we follow it this week. I have seven students, grades 2-5 doing this activity. The older students are each following their own mushers, and the younger ones are following one musher with a lot of teacher support.
There is a separate page, and slightly different requirements for each level: grade 2, grade 3, and grades 4/5. This assignment is easily adaptable in many different ways for anyone familiar with following the Iditarod with their class.
Please let me know if it is helpful, and if the assignment can be improved in any way. This is one I haven't tried out yet--we're going to start it tomorrow!
