If I Ran the Zoo Creature Creation Project
Engage your students in reading, creative writing, and science by turning your classroom into a zoo! With this fun project, students use their imaginations to create their own creature while learning or reviewing key scientific terms such as habitat, adaptation, predator, prey, diet, and behavior.
This project does not require any specific resources aside from paper and pencil, but it is fun for students to create their creatures using play-doh, origami paper, or any other craft/construction materials that are available. For mentor texts, it goes great with either Dr. Seuss' "If I Ran the Zoo" or Robert Lopshire's "Put Me in the Zoo," but these are not necessary for the activity.
Let’s be social!
