The story If You Give a Pig a Pancake by Laura Numeroff is perfect for Spring. This book companion was designed for speech & language therapy, speech & language intervention, whole group activities and small group literacy circles.

What's included in this packet:
Retell Coins: p. 3-4 Print, cut, and laminate. Ideas for use: Visuals while telling the story. Place in a muffin tin and have your students toss a ball. Whatever it lands on they have to describe, say the word ___ number of times, or use in a sentence. Sequence the pictures then retell the story.
Sequencing: p. 5-6 Have your students cut out the pictures on page 4 and glue them in sequential order onto page 3. (BW version also included on pages 7-8)
Comprehension Questions: (P 9-10) 12 WH question comprehension cards with picture cues and retelling map. Cut out WH question cards and place Velcro to retelling map (page 9). Every time a student answers a question correctly, they will remove the card to reveal part of the picture. Once all the WH questions have been removed, then students will retell the story using the map.
p. 11-12. Print and give a copy to each student. Have your students color in the correct answer.
WHY questions: p 13 Print and give a copy to each student or cut and laminate for repeated use. Use with open-ended game board.
Yes/No Questions: p.14 Print and laminate.
Cause & Effect Worksheet: p.15-16 Provide a copy for each student. Directions on each worksheet.
Sorting Parts of Speech: p.17 Print and provide each student with a copy. Have your students sort the words from the word bank at the bottom of the page into the correct column.
Categories: p.18 Print, cut, and laminate. Place the cards in a pile face down on the table. Have your students draw a card and list items in the category.
Counting Syllables: p.19-20 Print, cut, and laminate. Place the cards in a pile face down on the table. Have your students draw a card and identify how many syllables the word has..
Prepositions: p.21 Have your students find all of the pancakes hidden in the kitchen. Then have them use prepositional phrases to tell where the pancakes are located.
The pig has…. Sentence Strip: p. 22 Print and laminate. Have your students practice their articulation or increasing length of utterance.
Describing: P. 23-26 Provide each student with a worksheet. Place a paper clip on the wheel and use a pencil to hold it in place. Spin the spinner and describe the pictured object. (p.26 create your own)
Articulation Photograph: p. 27-30 Print, cut and laminate. Use with open-ended game board.
My Speech Words: p. 31 Have your students look through the book and find words with their target sound.
Find & Cover Object Function: p.32 Print and provide each student with a copy. You can use this 2 ways: (1) Provide the function and have your students find the object and color it in. (2) Have your students choose a word, provide the function, then color it in.
