An interactive activity is also included to encourage requests and interaction for students that have difficulty making requests. For this lesson, we watched a version of If you Give a Mouse a Cookie and then using a communication device with a small Social/Literacy Group we requested different items to give to the mouse, that he had requested in the book. this was done with a group specifically working with communication devices but could easily be done with verbal students or even students working on Fluency skills or focusing on Apraxia. Once the student had made the request they gave the piece to the mouse by slipping it through the hole of a wipes box. We all took turns, requested other peers to take their turn, requested our own turn etc. It was great for encouraging social participation. We used it for picture recognition (which one is the ….) and matching with the symbols on the device and the picture cards.
