This is a 56 page packet to use in speech/language therapy to go along with Laura Numeroff's book, "If You Give A Mouse A Cookie." The activities in this packet target some of the most common language goals I have for preschoolers: categorizing, vocabulary, basic concepts, sequencing, functions, WH questions, and associations!
PP3-6: Game board and extra playing cards
PP7-11: Basic concept cards for use with game board; Have students pull a card and identify the concept labeled on the card
PP 12-21: Milk & Cookie Go-Togethers: Place milk cards in one row with corresponding cookie cards in another row. Play like memory, only finding associations rather than matches. Have students explain how the two items are alike when they find a pair.
PP 22-25: Category Sort: Have students sort cookies into correct cookie jars-- 4 categories. Option: Attach cookie jar to open container or cut a hole & attach to tissue box to slide in cookies
PP 26-27: Sequencing Cards
PP 28-29: Vocabulary cards; print off two copies to play Memory, or use as sequencing cards for retelling or as manipulatives as you read the story
P30: Cariboo cards
PP31-35: Object Function Bingo (4 Bingo cards) & calling cards
PP 36-55: Cookie Flip WH Questions– 9 WH Questions relating to the story; Misc WH Questions: What (18), Where (18), Who (15), When (12), Why (9)
Print cookies front to back or make double sided copies of the cookies and the WH questions. Have students use a small spatula (i.e. from a play kitchen) to flip over the cookies and answer the questions. Put the cookies into a bag or 'cookie jar' after they answer each question!
