This PARCC-style assessment merges informational and literary texts into a performance assessment. Students will construct an explanatory essay to justify their explanations. Students will analyze a film parody, “Gnomeo and Juliet,” of William Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet. In the second section of the performance task, students will analyze a theme about ill-fate love and draw comparisons between how it is developed in Romeo and Juliet and 2 informational articles. They will construct an explanatory essay that develops their analysis of the theme.
