Every child will want to learn Sight Words so they can teach their dog 100 words!
Read the fun story, I'll Teach My Dog 100 Words. Then have students work together in this fun game format to learn 100 early sight words.
There are 100 Sight Word cards available with a adorable dogs to help students learn to read the words. The cards can be printed 1 per page for a large flash card to use with the whole group. 2 cards to a page works well for small groups or centers. 6 cards or 9 cards to a page work really well for game pieces.
One game we play is for every student to have a student response sheet ready to go (2 choices are available to choose from.) Students will take turns pulling one card from a container. If they know the word they get to keep the word in their word pile. If they don't know the word they pass it to their elbow partner. If they know the word they get to keep the word. If not, it moves to their elbow partner. The word keeps moving until someone can identify the word. If no one can say the word it is put in a pile for teacher assistance at an appropriate time. There are several 'bone break' cards in the game. If a 'bone break' card is pulled from the container all students must select one of their word cards and write it down on the recording sheet. The game keeps going until all 100 Sight Words have been drawn from the pile.At the end of the game if there are recording spots left on the student page the student fills in the remaining blank spots with words of their choice.
