Welcome to Welcome to Illinois Booklets!
Thanks for trying out these books.
They are printable non-fiction books to be used by students for guided reading or research.
You will receive three different pdf versions of the same book. Each version is at a different reading level. This allows you to pick the perfect version for the reading level of your students! Reading levels vary between grades 1.5 and 3.5 (as measured by the Flesch-Kinkaid reading level tool available in Word).
Here are some classroom needs for which they can provide solutions:
**Do you have trouble finding books at a level that your students can read that also have complex content?
**Do you have students writing reports about a state who need reference material?
**Are you looking for examples of multiple text features all in one book (including: table of contents, index, glossary, photos, captions, headings, charts or graphs, maps)?
**Do you need guided reading non-fiction at different reading levels?
Because these books are printed from a computer, the students can circle or highlight text such as vocabulary and text features right in the book.
The graph in the book lends itself to simple math calculations of comparing population in a city over time.
This download includes a teacher guide which gives activities to use with the books, a student worksheet to accompany the books, and information about the reading levels.
I welcome feedback and suggestions!
