Illustrate ‘n’ Read Booklets are patterned reading materials I developed and used with my students when I taught K-2.
My experience is that most beginning readers are eager to be reading long before they may have mastered letter sounds and the ability to blend those sounds together into words. Patterned reading booklets offer a good way to channel that eagerness into opportunities for children to have successful reading experiences early on. This, in turn, builds their confidence in their ability to read, helps them view themselves as readers, and lays the foundation for developing a true love of reading.
Many patterned reading booklets are on the market, but I found that children have more of a sense of ownership, and therefore more of a desire to read, if they themselves help to create the booklet in some way. In these Illustrate ‘n’ Read Booklets, the children are the illustrators.
This set includes 10 booklets. Each is printed on two pages. The pages are to be cut into fourths and stapled together to form 8-page booklets.
