Includes nine PowerPoint slideshows with five slides (one slide for each day of a quarter), tests to assess student retention every time ten words are accumulated (each test has a modified version for special education students), keys for the tests, information to access Kahoot review games, and "Jeopardy" review games to play before the tests. Words have been drawn from lists of commonly tested words on the ACT and SAT.
Each slide includes the word, its part of speech, a synonym, an antonym, an example sentence, and a picture that illustrates the word. I have my students copy down the first two lines, then they must think of a synonym, antonym, and sentence on their own.
When ten words are done we have a test on those ten words. After the next ten words are done, we have a test on the twenty words. Then I rotate the oldest ten words out for the following test.
I call these vocabulary words my "First Fives" because they take the students about five minutes at the very beginning of class, there are five things to do, and they receive five points for it each day. It's a great way for me to take attendance, meet with students who were absent the previous day, and do other housekeeping things while the students are still learning.
