Illustrated Blackout Poetry is easily one of my favorite activities I do with my students. It is consistently a hit with them, and they are always left asking me to do the project again. I usually do this activity with my literature and creative writing students, but I have done it as a "fun project" in my non-English classes as well when we have extra time. It is a great project to promote creativity and out-of-the-box thinking. I am always so, so impressed and amazed by the beautiful things they create!
This product includes an 18-slide PowerPoint presentation that includes an explanation of what illustrated blackout poetry is, a bunch of examples from my own students, and a step-by-step guide on how to create your own illustrated blackout poem. Additionally, there is a PDF attached with specific teacher instructions for how to run the project in your classroom most effectively (how to prepare for the project and how to execute it).
I sincerely hope you love this activity as much as me and my students always do -- I am confident it will be a hit in your classroom!
