Grades K-2: Students use a drawing program to illustrate sight words and create a class book. You can adapt this lesson to other word lists (science, art, social studies, etc.). Also, if you do not have a computer lab or drawing program, you can adapt this lesson to a paper/pencil project.
Our first grade teachers loved this activity. Students worked on their illustrations during computer lab time with a technology specialist. Completed student drawings were collected into a final sight word book to use in a station in the regular classroom center rotation. Students were proud to have computer-generated products to contribute to a class book.
