This product contains a scenario about a group climbing the Grand Teton Mountain when one of the members becomes ill with acute mountain sickness. The scenario requires students to think about the symptoms, treatment while the patient is still on the mountain, and the physiology of the condition. There are questions about the respiratory system and the scenario, but this worksheet does not include structural questions about the respiratory system. I have found through my years of teaching that students want to see how topics are related to real life situations. I have been an EMT and seen AMS many times, so hopefully this little scenario will make the respiratory system a little more interesting to the students. There are 60 questions about the respiratory system and the scenario. You can also add an outside assignment for students to research the more lethal conditions that can occur in high altitude – cerebral and pulmonary edema.
This product would be great for anatomy and physiology, AP biology, and all health sciences.
There is an answer sheet with this product.Enjoy!
