PLACE Characteristics: Landforms and Bodies of Water Scavenger Hunt
This scavenger hunt activity is designed for middle-school students. It is meant to reinforce students' understanding of previously taught landforms/bodies of water and concepts such as elevation, relative location, climate and cardinal directions. It is also meant to introduce students to a few more landforms/bodies of water.
Students will be given a mini-white board and a map (drawing with these landforms/bodies of water).
They must follow along as the teacher reads a script (details of an imaginary trip to visit these landforms) and instructs them to complete different prompts (i.e. locating and identifying different landforms, etc). The students should answer the questions using the mini white boards. (This makes it easy to evaluate their understanding. I got a class set for very cheap at the dollar store.)
*They could also work individually to answer the questions on the paper (if you do not have the mini-white boards).
Students should not have the script during the scavenger hunt activity. I did, however, later give them a copy of it to help them complete new vocabulary definitions.
The landforms/bodies of water covered on the map and on the scavenger hunt are:
-sea / ocean
