Here is a great way to combine reading comprehension and math problem solving practice in a high-interest fun way! My students have been learning all about habitats, so they absolutely loved this activity! All you need to do is copy one booklet for each student. There are 7 sections in the booklet, each corresponding to a different habitat. Each section consists of a reading passage about an animal that lives there, three comprehension questions about the passage and a word problem.
We really got into it. I assigned partners and student “explorers” traveled the world together. Teachers in the classroom became “tour guides.’ I set up “destinations” around the room where student “explorers” went to tackle each section. I also put relevant library books at each destination incase students finished early. You could also give students a map to color the destinations they visit.
My students had so much fun with this – I hope yours do too!
