Product Description

This product comes with a fall themed set of 390 WORD CARDS, a blank word card template for writing in your own words, a descriptive phrase builder worksheet, an ABC order worksheet, a Synonyms/Antonyms worksheet, a Word Sort worksheet, and writing paper for both primary grades and secondary grades.

I use these word cards in my own classroom. These words are an ESSENTIAL part of our writing program. As I put it with my students, we know a lot of words, but sometimes those words might not be in the forefront of our memory or minds when we are writing. That is why referring to the cards can help. The word cards also inspire other words that are not on the cards. Students will look in a dictionary or thesaurus to find other synonyms and antonyms that might work better. I also included a blank set of word cards so that you could write your own words in if you would like.

As a prewriting activity, I have students pair up cards to make phrases that will help them write a fall poem. Depending on the skill level of my students, sometimes I have the students work in partners to write sentence using a selection of the cards. This helps my reluctant writers because the words are there for them, and they just have to place word cards together to make phrases for the lines of a poem. The students will then be able to easily compose a fall themed poem. This also gives them confidence and experience using words that might not be from their own vocabulary, but which they will eventually and hopefully incorporate into their own vocabulary.

I print the word cards on card stock paper and then laminate them. You might find it helpful to hole punch them and put them on a ring. You might also want to just store them in a brown clasp envelope. If you don’t want to print all of them, you can just choose certain words sets. You can also display these words on an active board.

These word cards are included in my FALL POEM Product: https://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Writing-a-Fall-Poem-2170513
