This activity includes teacher, student, and parent components. “Imagine It” is designed to be used with any FICTION/NARRATIVE material and supports student learning related to Visualizing, Drawing Conclusions, and Examining Perspective.
“Imagine It” is one of 30 activities available for Primary Grades K-2 in the Reading3 Program. The complete Reading3 Program offers lessons aligned to the Common Core State Standards and encompasses higher order thinking skills.
This system helps students become skilled, confident readers and lifelong lovers of reading. And more: parents get involved so they know what is going on in your classroom!
Connect students’ parents to your classroom activities and students’ reading improves dramatically!!
Reading3 is a unique program that engages students with interactive classroom activities that are introduced by you (the teacher) and then shared by students with parents at home. [Hence the number 3: teacher + student + parent]
Reading3 works like this:
• You teach the key skills in your curriculum
• Reinforce those skills with Reading3 activities,
• Double the practice at home on those specific skills that tend to challenge even the best of readers
I have developed this program in my 3rd grade classroom in an impoverished community where parents never got involved…until I showed them how they could. These activities require NO PREP TIME…that’s all done for you. They are out of the box, ready to use!
Notice these 4 Organizational Elements:
• Instructional Model (Whole and Small Groupings)
• Writing Connection
• Directions for Parents (p. 3)
• Template for Each Activity (p. 4) that can be used over and over with multiple selections and books (including varied reading levels).
This systematic, interactive Reading3 Program develops thinking skills for reading. It engages students in whatever they are reading and gives them a sense of accomplishment as reading superstars when they share their success with family members at home.
